To graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Honours), you must complete 120 points from:

  • Specialization courses
  • Research methods course(s)
  • A dissertation

This structure ensures that you can critically analyse and evaluate the research and professional literature, and begin your advanced studies in business with an appreciation of the current issues and controversies in the field. You also design and complete a piece of supervised research in a business discipline.

Introduction to Research Methods

The research methods courses explore philosophical issues underpinning the design of research and the research process. They include training in research methods to prepare students to conduct methodologically rigorous research.

Research methods courses vary by specialisation.

Research (Honours) dissertation

This piece of supervised research contributes to the body of knowledge in your chosen business and economics discipline. You should consult your academic supervisor about your dissertation topic and proposed research.

The class of honours awarded in the programme depends on your grade performance.

What will I learn?

A graduate of the Bachelor of Business (Honours) will be able to:

a. Critically review relevant business research contexts, including literature in the field, citing the investigations within those research contexts. (Knowledge/Understanding) (Programme Learning Goal 2).

b. Demonstrate application of business research methodology and methods developing critical analysis to complete an individual scholarly body of work. (Personal/Intellectual Autonomy).(Programme Learning Goal 4).

c. Have advanced capability to consider relevant social, ethical, environmental and sustainability dimensions of decisions in business research contexts. (Ethical/Professional Dispositions).

d. Define a business research problem, formulate a research question or issues, design and justify an appropriate methodology or approach which addresses the question or research issues. (Inquiry/Research/Creativity (Programme Learning Goal 1).

e. Apply research skills relevant to the specific business areas of interest, such as appropriate methods of collection, analysis, creative processing and interpretation. (Skills/Application)(Programme Learning Goal 3).

f. Communicate effectively and to a scholarly standard. (Communication) (Programme Learning Goal 4).

<p>Apply if you:</p>
<ul>
<li>Are under the age of 20 years; and</li>
<li>Are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia; and</li>
<li>Don’t meet the University Entrance standard; and</li>
<li>Have received secondary schooling to at least New Zealand Year 12 level (or its equivalent overseas) and completed NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Merit or better. This should include at least 14 credits in each of 4 NCEA Level 2 subjects, at least 3 of which must be on the approved subject list; and</li>
<li>Meet the UE literacy and numeracy standards, or their equivalents; and</li>
<li>Have not completed Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school; or</li>
<li>Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must also be selected into the programme for which they have applied.</li><br>
