Breton is spoken in Brittany, a cultural region in the northwest of France, known for its Neolithic menhirs and dolmens, ancient architectural and cultural heritage. It is a ‘Brythonic Language’ brought from Great Britain to ‘Armorica’, during the early middle ages.
It was the language of the upper classes in the 12th century until it became the language of the lower classes when nobility changed to follow French. It has similarities to Cornish and Welsh but has its own propositions and grammar rules.
