To complete the programme, you need 180 points. Your course selection depends on the research pathway option you take – thesis or dissertation. Through the variety of specialised courses, you’ll enhance your knowledge and perception of tourism as both a discipline and an industry.

Students need a B- average grade in coursework courses as a prerequisite into the research pathways.
Your thesis/dissertation will be based on a topic of your choice, supervised by experienced academic staff. You can develop research expertise in a range of areas including tourism management, sustainability and tourist information.

What will I learn?
A graduate of the Master of International Tourism Management will be able to:
a. Critically analyse and apply advanced theories, concepts and knowledge relevant to the study of tourism as an academic discipline and as an industry. (Knowledge/ Understanding)
b. Work independently and/or in groups to develop problem solving skills, and apply knowledge to current issues in tourism management. (Personal/Intellectual Autonomy; Skills/Application; Communication)
c. Appreciate diversity in all its manifestations and assess strategies for empowerment of diverse groups in tourism. (Professional/Ethical Dispositions)
d. Apply in-depth knowledge and insights based on theoretical and/or empirical investigation of tourism management topics. (Inquiry/Research/Creativity; Skills/Application)
e. Critically evaluate and utilise information from a range of sources. (Knowledge/Understanding; Skills/Application)
f. Contribute to knowledge and practice in tourism management. (Knowledge/Understanding)
g. Communicate professionally and effectively to relevant audiences. (Communication).
<p>Must have completed the Bachelor of International Tourism Management or other </p><br>
<ul><li>relevant degree, or an equivalent qualification with a B grade average or higher in courses at level 7 International student entry requirements</li><br>
<p>Other requirements</p><br>
<li>May be required to submit examples of previous academic work or attend an interview</li>
<li>May be required to provide evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level and attend a selection interview</li></ul><br>
<p>Apply if you:</p>
<ul>
<li>Are under the age of 20 years; and</li>
<li>Are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia; and</li>
<li>Don’t meet the University Entrance standard; and</li>
<li>Have received secondary schooling to at least New Zealand Year 12 level (or its equivalent overseas) and completed NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Merit or better. This should include at least 14 credits in each of 4 NCEA Level 2 subjects, at least 3 of which must be on the approved subject list; and</li>
<li>Meet the UE literacy and numeracy standards, or their equivalents; and</li>
<li>Have not completed Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school; or</li><br>
<li>Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must also be selected into the programme for which they have applied.</li><br>
