Develop the skills to contribute to public health management and policy, disease control and health promotion across a wide range of populations with the AUT Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health.
In as little as six months you build your understanding of key elements of public health, with an emphasis on community health and development. You examine community and population perspectives on health and disease, and health systems responses.
Modules
The Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health emphasises the role of social, economic, cultural, educational, environmental and other societal factors in the production and maintenance of individual and community wellbeing.
The programme is committed to principles of equity, social justice, empowerment and community participation and ownership.

- PUBH805 Social Epidemiology and Biostatistics (30 points) (Semester 1)
Career Outcomes
A graduate of the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and critical application of principles of social justice, inclusion and community participation in public health.
- Identify and critically analyse public health issues from a range of perspectives including biological, environmental, behavioural, occupational, social and cultural determinants.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in the development and evaluation of public health practice.
- Demonstrate critical awareness of political, ethical and cultural issues embedded in public health in New Zealand (Treaty of Waitangi in particular) and international contexts.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in critical inquiry, including searching and synthesizing research literature, best practice models, theory and other relevant evidence to support public health research, policy and practice.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in academic writing and other forms of scholarly communication for public health

<li>Are under the age of 20 years; and</li>
<li>Are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia; and</li>
<li>Don’t meet the University Entrance standard; and</li>
<li>Have received secondary schooling to at least New Zealand Year 12 level (or its equivalent overseas) and completed NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Merit or better. This should include at least 14 credits in each of 4 NCEA Level 2 subjects, at least 3 of which must be on the approved subject list; and</li>
<li>Meet the UE literacy and numeracy standards, or their equivalents; and</li>
<li>Have not completed Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school; or</li><br>
<li>Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must also be selected into the programme for which they have applied.</li><br>

<p>Cost of applying for Discretionary Entrance There is a non-refundable assessment fee of $50.00.</p><br>

<li>Relevant bachelor’s degree</li>
<li>Relevant graduate diploma</li><br>

<li>At least one year of relevant professional experience</li><br>
<p>Other requirements</p>
<li>May be admitted on the basis of a relevant professional qualification or professional experience approved by the Dean (or representative) to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.</li>
