A graduate of the Postgraduate Diploma in Disaster Risk Management and Development will:
a) Demonstrate an integrated scientific understanding of disaster risk, and its implications

e) Demonstrate knowledge and skills to assess and analyse disaster risk and resilience and development trends and patterns, as well as conditions of environmental endangerment and socioeconomic vulnerability. (Knowledge & Understanding; Skills & Application)
f) Demonstrate critical thinking, decision-making and leadership skills in disaster risk management and humanitarian action that are aligned with national risk and resilience policies, as well as global frameworks and agendas. g) Demonstrate advanced skills in academic writing and other forms of scholarly communication for disaster risk management and development. (Communication; Personal & Intellectual Autonomy)
<ul>
<li>Are under the age of 20 years; and</li>
<li>Are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia; and</li>
<li>Don’t meet the University Entrance standard; and</li>
<li>Have received secondary schooling to at least New Zealand Year 12 level (or its equivalent overseas) and completed NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Merit or better. This should include at least 14 credits in each of 4 NCEA Level 2 subjects, at least 3 of which must be on the approved subject list; and</li>
<li>Meet the UE literacy and numeracy standards, or their equivalents; and</li>
<li>Have not completed Year 13 at a New Zealand secondary school; or</li><br>
<li>Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must also be selected into the programme for which they have applied.</li><br>

<li>Relevant professional qualification or experience approved by the Dean (or representative) to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree</li><br>

<li>Provide evidence of current professional practice</li>
<li>May be required to complete relevant prerequisite courses as specified by the Board of Studies</li>
